Confidential, clinical mental health support for the Montgomery collegiate community, focusing on academic burnout, trauma, and identity.
Schedule a Confidential IntakeUnderstanding the Intersection of Academics & Identity
According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), young adults aged 18-25 have the highest prevalence of mental illness. For university students balancing rigorous academics with deep foundational beliefs, this pressure is magnified.
Navigating the Dual Pressures of Campus Life
Attending a faith-based institution like Faulkner University provides an incredible foundation and community. However, the dual expectations of academic excellence and spiritual conformity can occasionally lead to spiritual burnout, cognitive fatigue, or identity crises. Taproot Therapy Collective offers a confidential, off-campus clinical space to navigate:
- Faith Crises & Deconstruction: Safe processing of spiritual doubts without institutional judgment.
- Academic Perfectionism: Mitigating the neurological impacts of burnout and executive dysfunction.
- Individuation & Identity: Developing a self-concept that bridges personal beliefs with family or institutional expectations.
- Complex Trauma (C-PTSD): Resolving deeply rooted somatic and emotional wounds using advanced neuro-experiential models.
Secure Telepsychology for Montgomery, AL
The American Psychological Association (APA) recognizes telepsychology as a highly effective modality for treating college populations. Our HIPAA-compliant platform brings advanced trauma care directly to your dorm or apartment in Montgomery.
Total Institutional Privacy
While on-campus resources like Student Counseling Services are excellent for immediate, short-term needs, some students prefer an external provider. We are entirely unaffiliated with Faulkner University. Your records, your diagnosis, and your sessions remain completely private and separate from your academic file.
Montgomery Teletherapy InfoFlexible Around Your Syllabus
College schedules are chaotic. Between classes, chapel requirements, and study groups, finding time for self-care is difficult. Teletherapy allows you to schedule sessions seamlessly into your week, and importantly, you can continue care with the same therapist when you travel home for summer or winter breaks (anywhere within Alabama).
AL Student Therapy GuideBeyond Standard Talk Therapy
Standard Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) often isn't enough for deep-rooted trauma or complex anxiety. At Taproot Therapy Collective, we utilize neurobiological and somatic approaches to heal the nervous system.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a top-tier treatment for trauma, endorsed by EMDRIA and the WHO. It helps the brain reprocess disturbing memories, making it highly effective for PTSD and severe anxiety.
Read about EMDR →Brainspotting
Discovered by Dr. David Grand, Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. It bypasses the conscious mind to release stored emotional pain.

Also known as "Parts Work," IFS helps students understand conflicting internal dialogues (e.g., the "Perfectionist" part vs. the "Exhausted" part), fostering deep self-compassion and internal harmony.

Request an AppointmentFrequently Asked Questions
Is this part of Faulkner's Counseling Services?
No. Taproot Therapy Collective is a completely independent, private clinical practice. While on-campus counseling is a great resource, many students prefer an off-campus provider to ensure their therapy records are entirely separate from their university identity, or to access long-term, specialized trauma modalities that standard university clinics cannot provide.
Do you take my parents' insurance?
Yes, we are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), which covers many students under their parents' plans. If you do not wish to use insurance for privacy reasons, or if you are uninsured, our LMSW therapists offer accessible sliding scale rates for college students.
