Hybrid Care for Alabama: One Trip to Hoover for a Brain Map, Then Therapy by Video from Your City

Objective brain data without moving to Birmingham. Come once for the QEEG, do the work from home, and return only for what needs the equipment.

Most of Alabama has no QEEG brain mapping and no somatic trauma therapist within an hour. Hybrid care at Taproot Therapy Collective is built for that: you make one trip to our Hoover office for a brain map and an evaluation with a licensed psychologist, then your weekly therapy runs by secure video from your own city with a clinician who works from your map. You come back only for the treatments that need the equipment, neurofeedback, neurostimulation or Emotional Transformation Therapy, on a schedule set around your drive. If you never want the office at all, video-only teletherapy is its own page.

Who hybrid care is for

Adults and children anywhere in Alabama who suspect ADHD, autism or a brain injury and want objective data before choosing a treatment. Depression or anxiety that two or three medications haven't touched. Parents in Huntsville, Dothan or the Shoals who want the evaluation done once and well, then care that doesn't require a weekly drive. People who've done trauma therapy locally and want Emotional Transformation Therapy, which the ETT Institute lists in only two places in the state.

Questions about hybrid care

What exactly happens on the one trip to Hoover?

A clinical interview with Dr. Jason Mishalanie, a licensed psychologist board-certified in neurofeedback, and the QEEG recording itself: a cap of electrodes records your brain's activity at rest with eyes open and closed. Plan on a morning. Everything after that, the map review and your weekly therapy, happens by video.

Who reads the map, and when do I get results?

Diana Pizarro, an electrical engineer from the UAB epilepsy research program, cleans and analyzes the recording against a normative database. Dr. Mishalanie then walks you through your map by video and recommends a plan.

Does hybrid mean my therapy is with someone in Hoover?

Your therapy is by video with a Taproot clinician licensed in Alabama; where they sit doesn't matter. The map informs the therapy: if it shows an over-aroused brain, the therapist starts with regulation; if it points to ADHD or autism, treatment is aimed there instead of guessed at.

When would I have to come back?

Only for neurofeedback, neurostimulation or Emotional Transformation Therapy, which need the equipment. Dr. Mishalanie sets the number and spacing of visits with you around your drive; many families from north or south Alabama group them.

Is this covered by insurance?

Therapy sessions, video or office, are covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama for most clinicians, with a $250 private-pay rate, an income-based sliding scale and superbills for other plans. Brain mapping and neurofeedback are billed separately and quoted on the intake call.

Can a child do hybrid care?

Yes. Brain mapping and neurofeedback are available for children at the office, Becky Milstead sees children and teens by video, and Dr. Mishalanie can evaluate ADHD and autism in children.
