Straight answers to what people ask before they call: what it costs, whether we take your insurance, how the sliding scale works, how you get matched with a therapist, what the first session is like, and whether you have to drive to Hoover. If yours isn't here, the free 15-minute intake call is where it gets answered.
Cost and insurance
Private-pay and out-of-network sessions are $250. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama is accepted for most clinicians. The income-based sliding scale is real and you ask for it on the intake call, no application. Out-of-network clients get a monthly superbill with the codes their insurer needs. Under the federal No Surprises Act, anyone paying out of pocket gets a good faith estimate of costs before starting.

Frequently asked questions
How much does therapy cost?
$250 per session for private pay and out-of-network clients, with an income-based sliding scale for clients with reduced income. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama is accepted for most clinicians, and we verify your benefits before the first session. If you pay out of pocket, you get a good faith estimate up front under the No Surprises Act.
Do you take my insurance?
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, for most of our clinicians. For any other plan we're out of network: you pay at the time of service and we send a monthly superbill with the diagnostic and procedure codes so you can file for reimbursement yourself. Ask the intake coordinator to check your plan.
How does the sliding scale work?
It's income-based. Tell the coordinator on the intake call; there's no separate application, and it applies to teletherapy as well as office sessions.
How do I choose a therapist?
You don't have to. The free 15-minute intake call is with our coordinator, who matches you with the clinician whose specialty and training fit what you're bringing. If you already know who you want, say so.
What happens in the first session?
History, what you've already tried, what you want to be different, and a first read on which methods fit. Nobody makes you retell the worst of it in session one; somatic, EMDR and Brainspotting work process trauma with very little narration.
Do I have to come to Hoover?
No. Every therapist offers secure video anywhere in Alabama. QEEG brain mapping, neurofeedback and Emotional Transformation Therapy are the only office-only services.
How long will therapy take?
It depends on what you're carrying. Panic and single-event trauma often shift within a couple of months; complex trauma is longer. Your clinician tells you which after the intake and reviews progress every few sessions.
Is this confidential?
Yes. Nothing is shared with an employer, a school, a program or a family member without your written consent, within the limits every licensed therapist in Alabama works under. Private pay never touches insurance.
Still have a question?
