Understanding Your Nervous System

Standard therapy (like CBT) works with the "upstairs brain" (logic and reasoning). But trauma lives in the "downstairs brain" and the brainstem (survival and instinct). We treat clients who are stuck in these biological states:

Common Dysregulation States

  • Fight/Flight (Sympathetic): Racing thoughts, anxiety, anger, panic, and an inability to sit still or rest.
  • Freeze (Dorsal Vagal): Numbness, depression, chronic fatigue, dissociation, and feeling "heavy" or paralyzed.
  • Fawn: Chronic people-pleasing, abandoning boundaries, and loss of self to stay safe in relationships.

Brainspotting

Where you look affects how you feel. Brainspotting locates specific points in your visual field that help access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. It is a powerful somatic tool for releasing deep-seated emotional pain without talking.
