About Becky
Becky is a seasoned therapist with over 20 years experience helping teenagers, adolescents and families heal trauma and learn to communicate effectively. Becky helps parents understand what their children are capable of and how to realize their potential academically, socially and in relationships. Becky helps families understand what a child’s behavior is really saying and what their emotions really mean. She can help parents fix problems early that may have serious consequences in later life. She is a safe space for teens and children to talk about anger, depression, anxiety, peer pressure, sexuality and problems in school.

Becky centers her counselling around each child’s personality and unique needs. The most important parts of Becky’s approach are compassion, communication and empathy for children and adolescents experience of growing up. Children that have experienced trauma need a safe space where they know that they can be seen and heard.

Teens often need help understanding where their emotions come from and what to do with them. Teens that struggle with anger, anxiety and depression can become angry, anxious, or ashamed of who they are.
Becky works with children, teenagers and families to help them recognize and regulate the emotions they are feeling. When teens understand emotion we can communicate our needs and the family system can grow and heal. Becky works with parents and children, both individually and together in sessions. When families are able to communicate their needs and expectations in a healthy way then healing can begin.
Becky believes strongly in the value of family relationships. She works with children and parents individually and together to give each party a place to voice their concerns and establish goals for treatment. By helping teens and parents have hard conversations all members of the family can learn to value and respect one another. Healthy communication is needed to help parent s guide teens through the challenges of growing up and finding their identity.

Becky teaches adolescent DBT skills which build the ability to recognize and regulate emotion. She uses fun activities like angry balloons and emotion Jenga tiles to help make internal experiences concrete. This and teach children and teens a language to communicate their internal struggles.
Becky graduated with her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Western Seminary Seattle in 1999. She has over two decades of clinical experience in a variety of settings in Seattle and Birmingham. She has worked closely throughout her career with child and adolescent psychiatry assessing and treating mood disorders, anxiety, behavioral problems and trauma.
Becky utilizes a variety of treatment interventions including CBT, DBT skills, developmental therapy, narrative therapy and family systems therapy. This eclectic approach allows the flexibility to meet every child and every family where they are. Becky enjoys working together with children, teens and parents to connect and develop the kind of communication and relationship skills that nourish the growth and development of a child’s true self.
Becky is an Alabama native, a huge Auburn fan, a tennis mom and a twenty-year veteran of JBS Mental Health Center where she currently serves as the Assistant Clinical Director for Children’s Services.
