📍 Local Access & Total Flexibility

Our physical office is conveniently located in Hoover, making it highly accessible for students attending the Shelby-Hoover Campus. However, we serve students across all JSCC locations (Jefferson, St. Clair-Pell City, and Chilton-Clanton) by offering three flexible modalities:

  • In-Person: Dedicated, face-to-face therapy space in our Hoover clinic.
  • Teletherapy: Secure, HIPAA-compliant online sessions between classes or shifts.
  • Hybrid: The flexibility to combine both based on your unpredictable exam and work schedule.

Understanding the Pressures of Community College Life

Community college students often balance a grueling academic schedule with significant full-time work and heavy family obligations. This "triple burden" creates a unique set of stressors that can lead to severe academic burnout, high-functioning anxiety, and untreated trauma.

The Balancing Act

~70%

Of community college students nationwide work while attending school, drastically increasing stress and time management challenges.

Untreated Symptoms

~40%

Of college students report symptoms of severe anxiety or depression, yet over 60% never receive professional therapy.

Financial Stress

~50%

Of community college students experience housing or food insecurity, which is strongly linked to chronic nervous system dysregulation.

Balancing Work, School, & Family

We provide concrete, evidence-based strategies for managing time, setting boundaries, and coping with the crushing burnout and guilt of juggling multiple, high-pressure roles.

Academic & Transfer Anxiety

We offer targeted therapy for test anxiety, imposter syndrome, and the specific, overwhelming stress of navigating transfer pathways to a four-year institution like UAB or Alabama.

Navigating Mental Health Resources at Jefferson State

We believe in a comprehensive, stepped-care approach. We highly encourage all JSCC students to utilize the free resources provided by the college while understanding when more specialized, long-term care at a private practice is necessary.

  • JeffCARE Student Counseling Services: Jefferson State offers free, short-term counseling sessions (typically up to seven sessions) to currently enrolled students via telehealth or telephone. This is an excellent starting point for immediate, confidential support.
  • JSCC Financial Aid Office: Resources for managing the financial stress that often contributes to severe anxiety.
  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Free, confidential, 24/7 support for people in distress anywhere in the US.

When Taproot Therapy Collective Provides Complementary Care:

Taproot is the ideal next step for JSCC students who:

  • Need ongoing, long-term support after utilizing their free JeffCARE sessions.
  • Require highly specialized trauma therapies like EMDR or Brainspotting that go beyond general talk therapy.
  • Need evening or weekend telehealth appointments due to a heavy work schedule.

Our Holistic & Advanced Treatment Approaches

We go beyond traditional talk therapy by integrating cutting-edge, neuroscience-backed approaches to treat the whole person.
